Understanding the SASSA TVET Work Integrated Learning and Internship Programme

SASSA’s initiative is structured to offer different pathways for career development. The program includes permanent Grants Administrator positions, Work Integrated Learning placements specifically for TVET graduates, and internships for university and diploma graduates. These roles are ideal for those looking to gain hands-on experience in government operations and develop practical skills. The program covers a range of departments, including administration, finance, ICT, legal services, human resources, and grants administration.

Opportunity 1: Grants Administrator Positions

SASSA is seeking to fill two permanent Grants Administrator posts. These positions are based in the Mopani District at the Maruleng Local Office. The salary offered ranges from R237,453 to R279,708 per annum, not including benefits.

Minimum Requirements for Grants Administrator

To be considered for these roles, applicants must possess a Senior Certificate or Matric. Additionally, an undergraduate qualification at NQF Level 6, recognized by SAQA, is required. This qualification should be in fields such as Public Administration, Public Management, Business Administration, Economics, Development Studies, Commerce, Social Sciences, Social Security, Law, or Information Technology. Computer literacy is essential, and a valid driver’s license would be an advantage.

Duties of a Grants Administrator

Successful candidates will be responsible for providing customer care services and processing grant applications. Their duties will include capturing beneficiary information, performing beneficiary maintenance, administering medical bookings, and supporting grant assessments. They will also be involved in providing outreach services and managing the scanning and batching of grant files for processing.

Opportunity 2: TVET Work Integrated Learning Programme

This program is specifically designed for TVET College learners who have completed their N6 studies and need workplace experience to obtain their National Diploma. The duration of these placements is up to 18 months, with a monthly stipend of R5,639.75.

Human Capital Management Placements

There are three Work Integrated Learning positions available in Human Resources Management. These are located in the Vhembe District, Mopani District, and at the Limpopo Regional Office.

Facilities Management and Auxiliary Support

One placement is available in Facilities Management and Auxiliary Support. This opportunity is located at the Limpopo Regional Office and requires an N6 qualification in Public Management, Public Administration, or Business Management.

Finance Placements

Two positions are open for those with an N6 qualification in Financial Accounting or Financial Management. These placements are in the Sekhukhune District and at the Limpopo Regional Office.

Grants Administration Placements

Two Work Integrated Learning positions are available in Grants Administration. These require an N6 qualification in Operations Management, Public Management, Public Administration, or Financial Accounting. The locations are Waterberg (Mookgophong) and Capricorn (Blouberg).

Opportunity 3: SASSA Internship Programme 2026

For graduates seeking practical experience in government, SASSA offers a 24-month internship program. The monthly stipend for these internships is R7,860.50.

Information and Communication Technology Internship

One internship is available in Information and Communication Technology at the Limpopo Regional Office. Applicants need a Degree, B-Tech, or National Diploma in Information Technology.

Legal Services Internship

A Legal Services internship is also offered at the Limpopo Regional Office. This requires a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) qualification.

Fraud and Compliance Internship

There is one internship in Fraud and Compliance, located at the Limpopo Regional Office. Candidates should have a Degree, B-Tech, or National Diploma in Forensic Investigation or Compliance Management.

Who Should Apply?

All applicants must be South African citizens. TVET N6 graduates are encouraged to apply for the Work Integrated Learning opportunities. Graduates with a Degree, Diploma, B-Tech, or LLB are eligible for the internship program. Internship applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old. Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply for all positions.
