The purpose of the internship is for the Intern to support the work of Strategic Partnerships and Development Finance in the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RCO). The Intern will assist in the provision of technical support towards the coordination of and implementation of the Partnerships Strategy.

Responsibilities:

The Intern will support the RCO in the following activities:

  • Provides substantive support for strategic planning for and coordination of UN Country Team (UNCT) partnerships
  • Provide Support the design of the UNCT joint resource mobilization for the UNSDCF
  • Provides substantive support on financing for accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Support the design and implementation of the SDG Platforms
  • Support the projects / or activities to be carried out by the Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Group
  • Assist in identifying the main areas of partnerships support to UNCT, Results Groups and Thematic Groups
  • Support the design of presentations and publications to be shared with partners
  • Identify global best practices that could benefit South Africa’s leveraging multi-stakeholder partners
  • Create a repository of partnership engagement, lessons learned, success stories and gaps to improve leveraging of strategic partnerships
  • Contribute to efforts to establish partnerships to support implementation of all UN activities (private sector, Foundations and Trusts, civil society, research / academia / think-tanks)

Qualifications: 

University degree in:

  • Development Studies,
  • Development Economics/Finance,
  • Business or Public Administration,
  • Sustainable Development,
  • Social Sciences,
  • Education,
  • Communications,
  • or related field.

Competencies:

  • Excellent organizational skills and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills for effective reporting
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environment requiring flexibility
  • Knowledge of the institutions of the UN system is an asset
