Purpose of the Job: 

As a provider of business intelligence to investors and local exporters, we are seeking to appoint an intern to our Research Unit, which functions as an economic intelligence hub for the Agency. Research Unit provides cutting edge intelligence on key sectors of the Western Cape economy with particular focus on international trade and investment dynamics. In addition, Research Unit participates in a plethora of conferences and policy making arenas to be informed of the latest trends in economic development. This is an excellent platform for a dynamic graduate whom aim to kick-start a career in the field of international trade and investment.  

This is a six months contractual position (with the option to renew) subject to the successful candidate signing a Performance Agreement.

Requirements: 

The applicant must be in possession of an appropriate diploma/degree in Economics. Applicants must demonstrate sound knowledge of Research skills. In addition applicants must possess strong writing skills and communication skills, have the ability to multi-task and be able to communicate and interact with diverse people. The applicant will be expected to take initiative and be innovative /creative in assisting within the unit.

Duties: 

  • Assist to support and provide cutting-edge market research and intelligence as the basis for sound decision making and planning.
  • Assist with in-house primary and secondary research according to market research & intelligence activity plan.
  • Providing assistance with research projects conducted by research agencies on behalf of Wesgro as required.
  • Assist with providing up to date tourism market research and intelligence to industry stakeholders and internal research & intelligence. Assisting with the setting of realistic and understandable corporate and industry targets in order to monitor and gauge the true performance of the Investment, Trade, Film and Tourism industry.

The successful candidate will report to the Chief Research Officer
