Available Internship Opportunities

Joburg City Theatres is looking for motivated individuals to fill two distinct internship roles: Marketing and Public Relations, and Building and Security. Each role offers a unique set of learning experiences and responsibilities within the theatre’s operational framework.

1. Marketing and Public Relations Intern

This internship focuses on the client-facing aspects of the theatre, involving communication, promotion, and audience engagement. The intern will work within the Client Services department, gaining hands-on experience in various marketing and PR activities.

Monthly Stipend: R6,094

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or N3 Certificate
  • National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or Media Studies

Skills and Competencies:

  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Creativity and attention to detail
  • Organizational skills and ability to work in a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines

Learning Areas:
The intern will be involved in social media management, content creation, drafting press releases and newsletters, supporting promotional campaigns, assisting with theatre events, monitoring media coverage, managing stakeholder databases, and providing administrative support.

2. Building and Security Intern

This role is within the Building and Facilities Department, offering practical experience in maintaining the theatre’s physical infrastructure and ensuring safety compliance. The intern will assist with a range of tasks related to building operations and security.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or N3 Certificate
  • National Diploma or Degree in Engineering Studies or a related qualification

Purpose of the Internship:
To provide practical workplace experience in building maintenance, facility inspections, safety compliance, and contractor coordination within a theatre setting.

Required Skills:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical systems, and building maintenance
  • Attention to detail and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Learning Areas:
The intern will gain experience in general building maintenance, facility inspections (including plumbing, electrical, and structural), identifying and reporting safety hazards, assisting with minor repairs, monitoring hygiene and accessibility standards, supporting maintenance programs, assisting contractors, and maintaining maintenance records. They will also learn about Occupational Health and Safety compliance, energy and water conservation, and asset management.

General Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for any of the internship positions, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be South African citizens.
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Reside within Johannesburg communities.
  • Meet the minimum qualification requirements for the specific position.
  • Have not previously participated in an internship program, unless it was unrelated to the current field of study.
