The Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), a Constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam, invites applications for admission into the Master of Arts with Education (M.A. Ed.) Degree Programme; Master of Science with Education (MSC.ED) Degree   Programme; Master of Arts in Public  Administration Degree (Evening) Programme; Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (Evening) Programme, and; Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (Online) Programme for the Academic Year 2024/2025.

MASTER OF ARTS WITH EDUCATION (M.A. ED) DEGREE PROGRAMME 1.1 Programme Structure

Master of Arts with Education (MA (Ed.)) Programme has six streams, namely; Linguistics, Geography, Kiswahili Literature, Kiswahili Linguistics, Literature and History.

 

Entry Requirements

  • First degree in education Arts Subjects (e.g. B.A (Ed.), or B.Ed. (Arts) from a recognised institution of higher learning with at least a lower second-class GPA not less than 2.7 or its equivalent. To take Language streams of the MA (Ed.) programme one has to have studied any of the following in the undergraduate degree: Linguistics, Kiswahili,  French, English and Literature. For Geography and History streams one has to  have  studied the particular subjects in the undergraduate

OR

  • BA (Kiswahili), BA (Language Studies), BA (English), BA (Geography and Environmental Studies), BA (French), BA (Literature) and BA (History) with a GPA not less than 2.7 plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognised institution of higher learning

 

with at least an average pass of B in their final University Examination of the PGDE Programme.

  • Duration: The Programme runs for 24 months
  • Mode of Delivery: Coursework and Research Project

The tuition Fee for the Master of Arts with Education Programme is TZS 4,000,000/= for Tanzanian applicants and US$ 6,150 for Non-Tanzanian applicants.

 

MASTER OF SCIENCE WITH EDUCATION (MSC. ED) (CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY STREAMS) DEGREE PROGRAMME

 

  • Programme Structure

The M.Sc. (Ed) is a taught programme comprising coursework and a dissertation and the duration shall be twenty-four months (2 years) for full-time students. Coursework will run over two semesters of 15 teaching weeks, with the final examination at the end of each semester. The second year shall be devoted to research and writing of the dissertation. During the second semester of the first year, students will be required to develop research proposals detailing the theoretical background and methodology, as a preparation for research and dissertation work.

 

Entry Requirements

  • First degree in education (e.g. B.Sc. (Ed.) (Sc.)) from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least a lower second GPA of not less than 2.7 or its equivalent. To take the Biology stream of the M.Sc. (Ed.) programme one has to have studied Biology in the undergraduate degree. For the Chemistry stream, one has to have studied Chemistry in an undergraduate

  • Sc with a Background in Chemistry or Biology plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least an average pass of B in their final University Examination.

 

  • Duration: The Programme runs for 24 months

MASTER OF ARTS IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION (MAPA)-EVENING PROGRAMME 3.1Programme Structure

The MA (PA) is an evening taught programme comprising coursework and a dissertation

and the duration shall be twenty-four months (2 years). Coursework will run for two semesters of 15 teaching weeks, with a final examination at the end of each semester. The second year shall be devoted to research and writing of the dissertation. During the second semester of the first year, students will be required to develop research proposals as a preparation for research and dissertation work.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will be required to have at least a first degree in public administration,  political science, education with majors in public administration and/or political science or any related fields from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least a lower second GPA of not less than 2.7 or its equivalent.

The tuition Fee for the Master of Arts in Public Administration Programme is TZS 5,000,000/= for Tanzanian applicants and US $ 6,030 for Non- Tanzanian applicants.

 

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE) (EVENING) PROGRAMME

  • Programme Structure

The programme is offered during evening hours from 5.00 pm as well as weekends (Saturdays). This Programme is aimed at those who intend to work or are already working in the education sector and wish to enhance their career prospects in the teaching profession. The programme provides a flexible route to earn a teaching profession qualification and allows candidates to combine work and study. The programme leads to certification in the teaching profession equivalent to a degree-level qualification in education.

Entry Qualification

A first degree or advanced diploma in any field other than education from a recognised institution of higher learning. Candidates with a science background are highly encouraged to apply.

  • Duration: The Programme runs for 12 months (One year)
  • Mode of Delivery: Evening

Applicable Tuition Fees

The tuition Fee for the PGDE (Evening) Programme is TZS 2,750,000/= for Tanzanian applicants and US$ 3,075 for Non-Tanzanian applicants.

 

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE) (ONLINE) PROGRAMME 5.1 Programme Structure

The programme is offered online with some sessions of face-to-face interactions. This Programme is aimed at those who intend to work or are already working in the education sector and wish to enhance their career prospects in the teaching profession but due to their work schedules are not able to attend normal class sessions. The programme provides a flexible route to earn a teaching profession qualification and allows candidates to combine work and study.

The programme leads to certification in the teaching profession equivalent to a degree-level qualification in education.

A first degree or advanced diploma in any field other than education from a recognised institution of higher learning. Candidates with a science background are highly encouraged to apply.
