Are you a recent graduate looking for hands-on experience in South Africa’s public sector? The dtic Internships 2026 offer a great chance to build skills and contribute to the economy. This 24-month program starts on 01 July 2026 and runs until 30 June 2028. It targets unemployed graduates with a tertiary qualification at NQF Level 6 or higher.

Program Details

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) runs this internship in Sunnyside, Pretoria. The goal is to give participants real-world exposure to government work. You will learn about systems that support a strong, inclusive economy. Applications close on 06 May 2026, so act fast.

Who Can Apply

To qualify, you must be an unemployed South African graduate. Your qualification needs to be at NQF Level 6 or above. Strong communication skills are key, along with professionalism and attention to detail. You should handle pressure, meet deadlines, and show a drive to learn government processes.

Eligible Fields of Study

The program accepts degrees in many areas. These include Public Management, Business Management, Human Resource Management, Communication, Law, Software Development, Economics, Statistics, Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, Accounting, Risk Management, Internal Auditing, Natural Sciences like Microbiology or Biotechnology, Mining Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Supply Chain Management, and International Politics.

Stipend and Benefits

Interns receive a monthly stipend of R7 860.50. This amount may change based on your highest qualification. The program focuses on practical skills to boost your job prospects in government or other sectors.

What to Include in Your Application

Use the new Z83 form, available at www.gov.za/documents. Add a detailed CV with your final year modules. Do not send certified copies yet; shortlisted candidates will need them later. Foreign qualifications require SAQA evaluation. Late or incomplete applications get rejected.

Key Notes and Equity Targets

No feedback within three months means your application was not successful. The dtic prioritizes employment equity, with preference for African males and people with disabilities.
