City Changers Institute Courses Offered
One of the greatest challenges currently associated with church based ministry is the general lack of biblical literacy amongst the members, let alone the youth. The CCI Professional’s Youth Bible Study Programme is designed to specifically address this need from an educational perspective. Presented over a 5 year period, the programme starts at grade 8 continuing to grade 12 learners.
Though there are nearly endless variations in biblical training methodologies, this programme is constructed based Paul’s approach to the church in Ephesus. The Bible state that all of Asia heard the Gospel because of what Paul taught in the School of Tyrannus (Acts 19:9-10). Unfortunately the Bible is not clear on the exact approach that Paul followed during his time of instruction at the School; however, certain clues are found in his epistle to this church. As a result, the book of Ephesians can basically be divided into three sections / approaches / postures:
-
The position of SIT – We are seated with Him in heavenly places (Eph 2:6)
-
The position of WALK – Walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called (Eph 4:1)
-
The position of STAND – So that we will be able to stand firm (Eph 6:11, 13, 14)
From a more descriptive language perspective, the concepts of sit / walk / stand have been redefined as (a) Knowing God, (b) Loving people, and (c) Impacting my world.
This is the basis of this approximately 150 lesson-based Bible study curriculum; however, some additional outcomes and sub-categorisations have also been defined as follows:
From a time based perspective, the High School Bible Study Programme curriculum consists of the following outcomes speared over five years:

The programme includes 1 Bible based project per year, serving as part of the learner’s Life Orientation portfolio. Each participant also receives a City Changers Institute certificate at the competition of their programme; a much sought-after reference for application to both higher educational institutes as well as vocational training programmes.
- Youth Leadership Development
All too frequently do we find leadership development only talking with members of a school’s student council. The CCI Professional’s Youth Leadership Development Programme has therefore been designed to address this need in raising and equipping young leaders throughout an entire school. Consequently, this 3-year training programme starts off with grade 10 learners and concludes at the end of grade 12. The focus of the programme is to cultivate a holistic awareness of what leadership is, based on three different, yet complementary approaches, which include:
-
A philosophical worldview consideration
-
A values-based consideration
-
A pragmatic leadership theory consideration
The first consideration of worldview focuses on the three primary realities that each person/leader engages in is:
(a) the eternal reality
(b) the internal reality
(c) the external reality
The second consideration of values is constructed on the biblical reference found in Hebrews chapter 13:7:
(a) a word worth listening
(b) a faith worth embracing
(c) a life worth imitating
The third consideration of leadership theory addresses one of the most recent developments in the field, namely authentic leadership theory, which address the three components:
(a) personal development
(b) intra-personal approaches
(c) inter-personal aspects.
As a result, the curriculums are structured as follows:
Grade 10 curriculum is constructed around the concepts of eternal reality / a faith worth embracing / personal development;
Grade 11 – internal reality / a word worth listening / intra-personal; and
Grade 12 – external reality / a life worth imitating / inter-personal.
From a time-based perspective, the Youth Leadership Development Programme curriculum consists of the following outcomes speared over three years:

Each lesson has been constructed from a “flipping the classroom” perspective where the facilitator does not need to be a subject/content expert; only a facilitator of the learning and the learner interaction process. The programme includes 1 leadership-based project per year, serving as part of the learner’s Life Orientation portfolio. Each participant also receives a CCI Professional certificate at the completion of their programme; a highly sought-after reference for application to both higher educational institutes as well as vocational training programmes.
Definition of Authentic Leadership:
Intra-personal – Authentic leaders exhibit genuine leadership (self-knowledge, self-regulation, and self-concept), lead from conviction, and are originals, not copies (Shamir & Eilam, 2005. What’s your story).
Interpersonal – Authentic leaders are relational; created by the authentic interaction between leaders and followers together (Eagly, 2005. Achieving relational authenticity in leadership).
Personal development – Authentic leadership is something that can be nurtured in a person; it develops in people over a lifetime (Avolio & Gardner, 2005. Authentic leadership development).
