Boyden Internship Application Details 2022/2023

Interested applicants can apply for the Boyden Internship 2022 provided they qualify and meet the program requirements.

The  successful candidate will work in both a team and independent atmosphere to formulate conclusions, analyse data/spreadsheets, and develop recommendations to support the Underwriting team. The intern must possess quantitative skills and be able to multi-task on several projects. The Internship will run for a period of 6 months.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Analyse large data sets and spreadsheets to inform the Underwriting, and reserving process.
  • Perform analyses as required
  • Evaluate current spreadsheets and models to formulate recommendations on efficiency and structure.
  • Participate in department and company meetings.
  • Complete Africa Risk View training related to insurance product as well as other computer applications is use

During your internship you will be exposed to the following:

  • Insurance Pool Analytics
  • Data analysis and manipulation
  • Insurance pool reporting
  • Reinsurance Pricing
  • Africa Risk View model
  • Statistical and quantitative analysis

Profile Requirements

The preferred candidate should be/have enrolled in a Data Science Program or any related field (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences).

In addition, we are looking for the following skills/competencies:

  • A minimum of bachelor’s in sciences.
  • Demonstrate the willingness to be engaged and try new things.
  • Fast learner and willing to challenge yourself every day.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to recognize problems, determine appropriate actions, implement solutions, and use judgment when appropriate
  • Well-developed time management skills and ability to work independently
  • Good verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel.
  • Preferred knowledge of R, Python or any other relevant programming.
