The AHRI Research Intern’s main responsibility is to work with human cells and HIV in the BSL-2 and BSL-3. He/She will perform molecular biology and immunology techniques including tissue culture, flow cytometry, T cell cloning, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, sequencing and in vitro infections.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory activities related to the project.
  • Assist senior researcher with experiments, quality control and data verification.
  • Undertake blood sample processing when necessary.
  • Preparation of reagents, maintenance of cell lines and monitoring of viral cultures.
  • Perform human tissue culture and virus infectivity experiments.
  • Perform ELISA, Luminex and flow cytometry experiments.
  • Perform molecular biology experiments including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, sequencing and cloning.
  • Perform general laboratory housekeeping / equipment maintenance.
  • Participation in the institution’s academic activities including journal club, lab meetings, research update meetings and etc.

Qualifications:

Hons or Master’s degree in:

  • Molecular biology,
  • Microbiology,
  • Biochemistry,
  • Virology,
  • Immunology
  • or equivalent in related field.

Experience:

  • Processing and storing of human samples e.g. bloods, tissue, cells, RNA/DNA etc
  • Experience with HIV lab research
  • Experience in molecular biology, immunology or genetic techniques
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Experience in molecular biology, immunology or genetic techniques
