Masters Studentship
Bursary Value : R120 000.00 Per Annum (Excluding Prescribed RegistrationAnd Tuition Fees)
Purpose Of The Role
To develop a Curriculum for the Revised International Systems of Units (SI) as a Master’s degree in Tertiary Physics Education in the Department of Physics at the University of Cape Town, within a two-year period.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills And Experience
- BSc Honours (Physics), or being in the final year of studies for the corresponding Honours degree – preference will be given to candidates with excellent academic track record in the profiling study modules
- Some evidence of physics education activities or studies
- Understanding of physics fundamentals (essential requirement)
- Candidate must meet requirements to study towards a Master’s degree in Tertiary Physics Education at UCT
- Scientific paper writing skills
- MS Word and Excel
Project Description
The project aims to
- Provide insight into students’ understanding of the fundamental constants of nature and how this translates into their understanding of the role of measurement in science; and
- To produce materials which enhance the teaching of the science of measurement at first year university and high school levels. The rollout of the Revised SI in November 2018 offers a unique opportunity for this project to have wide-reaching effectiveness.
