NFVF National Archives Digitisation Project: 100+ Jobs for Unemployed Youth 2026
Are you an unemployed young South African looking for work experience in archives and preservation? The NFVF National Archives Digitisation Project (PESP Phase 6) for Unemployed Youth 2026 offers over 100 job spots. This program, run by the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), helps preserve the country’s history while placing youth in real jobs at the National Archives in Pretoria.
Programme Overview
This project is part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP Phase 6). It focuses on digitizing, preserving, and managing national archives. Workers will gain skills in a government setting, handling historical records, films, and more. The jobs last for a set time and aim to build careers in archives, IT, and admin.
Applications close on 08 April 2026. The site is the National Archives and Records Service of South Africa (NARSSA) in Pretoria, Gauteng.
Available Positions
The program has more than 20 roles for 100+ people. Here are the main groups:
Archivist Roles
- Archivist: Arrangement and Description (15 posts): Needs a diploma or degree in Archival Studies or similar.
- Archivist: Outreach and Publications (2 posts): Same qualifications.
- Archivist: Oral History (2 posts): Same qualifications.
Assistant Archivist Roles
These include Reading Room, Cartographic Material, Strong Room Registers, and Sensitive Records. Most need Grade 12 or a related qualification.
Audio-Visual Preservation Roles
- Film & Video Preservation Assistants.
- Sound Preservation Assistants.
- Legal Deposit Audio-Visual Assistants.
A diploma or degree in Film, Engineering, Audio Production, or related fields is required.
Administration and Records Roles
- Administration Officer.
- Records Management Officer.
- Sensitive Records Admin Officer.
These need a diploma or degree in Public Administration or similar.
IT and Systems Roles
- Systems Administrator (must have MCSE).
- IT Support Officer.
A diploma or degree in Information Technology is needed.
Entry-Level Roles
Open to Grade 10 or Grade 12 holders:
- Scanner Operator.
- Archive Assistant Housekeeping.
- Conservation Assistant.
Driver Role
- Principal Auxiliary Officer: Needs Grade 12, valid Code 10 driver’s licence, and PDP.
Technical Role
- Maintenance Officer: Qualification in the built environment.
Minimum Requirements
