Learnership Overview
Harmony Gold runs one of the biggest gold mining companies in South Africa. The learnership focuses on building practical skills for the mining industry. It combines classroom learning with on-the-job practice to prepare you for artisan roles.
Available Learnership Fields
You can apply for these trades:
- Rigger: This role involves setting up and maintaining equipment safely in mining operations.
- Boilermaker / Plater: Workers in this field build and repair metal structures using welding and fabrication.
- Fitter: Fitters assemble, install, and fix machinery to keep mining processes running smoothly.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, you need one of these:
- Technical Grade 12, or
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science (at least 50% in each), or
- N2 qualification with relevant trade theory subjects, or
- NCV Level 4 with Mathematics (at least 50%) and related trade theory.
Maths Literacy does not count. These standards ensure you have a strong base for technical training.
Additional Requirements
Beyond school qualifications, you must:
- Show proof of residence.
- Be medically fit for mining work.
- Pass psychometric assessments.
- Have good English communication skills.
- Work well in a team.
- Be ready for overtime and standby shifts.
- Follow health and safety rules strictly.

Selection Process
