Key Responsibilities

The successful intern will gain exposure to a wide range of activities within the Budget and Treasury Office. This includes hands-on experience in expenditure administration, managing payroll processes, and understanding supply chain management principles. Interns will also be involved in budget preparation, handling VAT returns, and assisting with the compilation and submission of compliance reports. A significant part of the role will involve working with various Acts and legislation that govern municipal operations.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this Finance Intern position, applicants must possess a three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma. The major concentration of study should be in one of the following fields: Economics, Accounting, Internal Audit, or Risk Management. Crucially, applicants must be new market entrants, meaning they should not have prior full-time work experience in a similar role.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

Ideal candidates will demonstrate a foundational understanding of financial systems. Specifically, knowledge of Pastel Accounting is highly desirable, though experience with any financial system will be considered. Strong computer skills are also a must, as much of the work will involve using various software applications. While knowledge of Pastel Accounting is an advantage, a willingness to learn and adapt to new systems is also important.

Behavioral Competencies

Beyond technical skills, the municipality is looking for candidates who exhibit strong personal attributes. These include integrity, honesty, and a commitment to confidentiality, which are paramount in handling financial information. The ability to solve financial problems effectively, work calmly under pressure, and follow both verbal and written instructions are also key competencies sought in applicants.
