The Equal Education Law Centre (EELC) focuses on public interest litigation and advocacy to advance the right to basic education in South Africa. The EELC also aims to develop young, skilled attorneys and law graduates in public interest litigation.<\/p>\n
EELC seeks to appoint\u00a0a Candidate Attorney<\/strong>\u00a0for its\u2019\u00a0Bertha Justice Fellowship programme<\/strong>, to be\u00a0based in Cape Town.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n

- Assist in strategic litigation cases<\/li>\n
- Research in support of advocacy and litigation activities<\/li>\n
- Conduct field research in communities<\/li>\n
- Draft pleadings and legal\u00a0opinions<\/li>\n
- Assist in the drafting of research reports<\/li>\n
- Provide input into draft policies and legislation<\/li>\n
- Prepare documents for, and appearing in, court<\/li>\n
- Liaise with clients, counsel and partners<\/li>\n
- Assist with community engagement programmes<\/li>\n
- Represent EELC in civil society and public forums<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n

- An LLB degree (completed by January 2022)<\/li>\n
- A demonstrated interest in human rights work and social\u00a0justice<\/li>\n
- A strong interest in research as a component of lawyering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Competencies:<\/strong><\/p>\n

- Oral and written communication skills in English<\/li>\n
- Proficiency in other\u00a0South African languages will be an advantage<\/li>\n
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office<\/li>\n
